Minimalist living for a joyful life isn't only about getting rid of unneeded clothes, appliances, and knickknacks. It's not just about packing carry-on only when you travel. It's also about making sure you keep certain things, and leave other things out of the bag you take with you on this journey called life.
The physical things you decide to bring into or leave out of your home or suitcase become metaphors for the unhappiness you choose to bring into or leave out of your life.
What to keep for a more joyful life:
It's a pretty long list! There's really not a lot of room for other stuff (life being short) so if you are keeping other things, there probably won't be as much room for the above. To make sure you are leaving space for these items above, go ahead and drop some sh** you don't need.
What to declutter:
- Chronic stress
- Your inner critic
- Your outer critic
- Chronic self-doubt
- Paralyzing fear
- Confining conformity
- Violent action
- Violent communication
- Living in another moment that isn't now
- Waiting for another time to pursue your dreams
- Being someone other than you
- Hating on your body (stop right now forever)
It's a Short Trip
Advertisers and ego will try to make you think you need to bring everything on the second list along for the ride of your life, but that stuff will make your life way too f***ing crowded. (I'm in a cussing mood today.)
After all, this human life won't last forever and I want you to enjoy it, mixed metaphors and all.
